Going green

‘Green electricity’’ means electricity produced from sources which do not cause these impacts upon the environment. Of course, every type of electricity generation will have some impact, but some sources are much greener than others. The cleanest energy sources are those which utilize the natural energy flows of the Earth.  There are many ways that we can help you look at your electrical setup and revamp it so that it has less impact on the environment.

Here are some simple ways to become a little more electrically green on your own.

• • Replace your light bulbs with light emitting diodes (LEDs).They have come so far down in price that you should take a pass on compact fluorescents.

• • Turn off lights and other devises when they’re not needed.

• • Eliminating electronics that sleep on a standby setting; they continue to pull a current even when “turned off.”

• • Phantom Power, those clunky AC adaptors on many power cables, pull current, too, so those should be taken out of the wall when not in use. Your best bet is a “smart” power strip, or a power strip that can be turned off at night.This is particularly important with some of the new game consoles that use a huge amount of power in standby mode.
